There are probably few better ways to bring in the new year than the short but lung-burning San Bruno Hillclimb. I passed on my usual New Years routine of drinking until all hours and then rolling out of bed around noon the next day in favor of eating my veggies and going to bed early. It seems to have worked as I was able to hang on to most of the searing attacks put in by the competition. Every time the grade went above 7% the young Adrien Costa would test the field with some serious acceleration. The last few ramps on Radio rd. are what did me in. From then on I tried to limit my loss and hold off Chris Phipps who was mounting a finishing charge. I ended up second on the day 22 seconds behind Costa and only 3 seconds ahead of Phipps. I had a great time and look forward to improving my time next year!
