The Lodi Cyclefest is probably one of the most underrated events on the NCNCA racing calendar. There is an impressive prize list, a great location, and not to mention an awesome downtown race course. This year, it was only myself and teammate Josh Carling, who wins “Teammate of the Year Award”. Josh had raced the Boise Twilight NCC Criterium the night before and flew back into California just to come race Lodi with me. He actually came straight from the airport to the race.
Like usual this race was fast from the gun, repeated attacks until an early break went. This split contained two riders from Cal Giant cycling, Roman Kilun of Team Mikes Bikes p/b Equator, and one other. It was gone out of sight as quick as it went, and Josh and I knew we didn’t have the power to bring it back. We both got into multiple chase groups and did what we could to try to get across with others or get better odds for the finish, but the field kept coming back together.
The finish came down to a field sprint, and Josh and I were in great position to throw down. It was a very close bike throw between Randy Bramblett of Pinnacle Reactor and myself. So close it may as well have been a tie. I’m pretty sure they gave it to Randy because his bike throw had so much aggression and mine was very lack luster.
